Problem

Propex wanted to test the millability of PETROMAT® Enviro. Both a traditional M288 Type II paving fabric and PETROMAT® Enviro were installed with 1.5 inches of compacted HMA over an aging road. After five months of heavy traffic, the pavement was milled and analyzed.

Solution

Engineered to mill into small pieces, Enviro can easily be recycled into reclaimed asphalt pavement and used in new HMA mix designs without additional processing. It can also be installed directly on milled surfaces without tearing.

Performance

After milling, PETROMAT® Enviro sizes measured 0.75 inches or smaller, while the traditional fabric ranged from 0.75 to more than 4 inches in length. This allowed for the Enviro pieces to easily sift through the processing screens without getting caught and slowing down production. Additionally, the RAP did not require any additional processing before being used with new HMA mix.
