Project Type: Shoreline Reinforcement
Application: Spillway Protection
ProductS Used: ARMORMAX®

Problem

The earthen spillway between two stormwater ponds in a housing development was in need of protection from erosion. As storms would pass through, stormwater would fil upone of the ponds to capacity and excess water would spill over into the other pond. The earth between the ponds was eroding due to continual overtopping from stormwater. The development needed a solution to keep the ponds intake.

Solution

ARMORMAX® Engineered Earth Armoring Solution™ was chosen as the system from permanent erosion protection in order to provide an economical and environmentally friendly alternative to the original concrete design. ARMORMAX is comprised of High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mats (HPTRMs) and Engineered Earth Anchors*trade; that work together to lock soil in place and protect against hydraulic stresses. Around 560 square yards of ARMORMAX 75 was installed along the spillway in only three days.

Performance

ARMORMAX 75 reinforces vegetation and promotes sustainable aquatic habitats while protecting the spillway during storms and keeping the ponds intake.
