Problem

This storm drainage channel spans more than 500 feet between a residential area and a grade school playground. Drainageway flows exceeding 14 feet-per-second during large storm events was causing channel erosion and a risk of property loss.

Solution

PYRAMAT® 75 High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mat was chosen over 4-inch concrete paving to protect the drainageway because its reinforced vegetative system offered a more aesthetically pleasing, safe, and environmentally friendly solution at a much lower cost. The drainage channel was graded and seed was broadcast on the subgrade prior to the installation of the PYRAMAT® 75.

Solution

Performance

One year after the installation, the channel is fully vegetated. The channel is very effective in conveying and filtering storm water runoff, and is easily maintained and mowed.
