The city of Kent, OH decided to construct a new bridge connecting Fairchild Avenute to Walter Street across the Cuyahoga River as traffic on the Crain Avenue bridge was becoming too much to bear. During the construction of the new bridge, significant storm-related flows through the Cuyahoga River caused the riverbank to start eroding, threatening the bridge project. The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) needed a quick solution to continue construction. They wanted a product that would stabilize the eroding bank while also minimizing the need for costly riprap.


ARMORMAX® 75 Engineered Earth Armoring Solution™ was incorporated into the design to prevent further erosion and promote vegetation to enhance the streetscape element of the project. ARMORMAX® was used to repair current damage as well as protect rom further erosion.

The system was quickly deployed for immediate protection and vegetation was established rapidly above the now stabilized bank. The ARMORMAX® 75 solution withstands hydraulic stresses including high water flows and wave impact while promoting sustainable aquatic habitats with aesthetic enhancement.
