Case Study Overview

Project: Repsol's Nuevo Mundo
Location: Cusco, Peru
Project Type: Slope Stabilization
Application: Slope Stabilization
ProductS Used: ARMORMAX®

Photo showing instability of slopes and gabions caused by continuous erosion.

Problem

The slopes at the Flowline of Repsol's Nuevo Mundo O&G Platform were eroding away, threatening the stability of the gabions at the bottom of the hill. A solution was needed that would not only prevent future erosion, but stabilize the slopes as well.

Solution

INMAC Peru proposed the installation of Propex's ARMORMAX® solution, which is comprised of High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mats (HPTRMs) and Engineered Earth Anchors™ (EEA) taht work together to lock soil in place and protect against hydraulic stresses. The system provides dynamic erosion control and slope stabilization solutions, which is why it was chosen for this project. ARMORMAX® was installed along the slopes to provide stabilization and permanent erosion protection.

Performance

Immediate vegetation allowed the system to perform extremely well, even during aggressive and continuous rains common in the Peruvian jungle.
