Case Study Overview

Project: Gull Island
Location: Manasquan, New Jersey
Project Type: Slope Stabilization
Product Used: ARMORMAX®

Photo of erosion along Manasquan Harbor.

Problem

A slope on Gull Island on Manasquan River was experiencing scour due to wave action. Half of this island is a wildlife rescue while the other half is a contaminated dredge site. With the slope failing, the harbor was in danger of being contaminated with the dredge. The New Jersey DOT and DNR wanted to find a solution that would be environmentally freindly but also stabilize the slope.

Solution

ARMORMAX® Engineered Earth Armoring Solutions™ was the system chosen for the job. It is composed of High Performance Turf Reinforcement Mats (HPTRMs) and Engineered Earth Anchors™ (EEA) that work together to lock soil in place and protect against hydraulic stresses. 2,295 square yards of ARMORMAX was installed along the slope easily considering part of it had to be accessed by water.
