The popular beach of Chicama in Puerto Malabrigo is well known for its winds and waves, as well perfect for surfing. However, those strong winds combined with seasonal rains were causing erosion to the slopes adjacent to the new pier. With the beach being in danger of losing the pier, a solution needed to be found to stabilize the slopes.

LANDLOK® Turf Reinforcement Mats (TRMs) was chosen to provide long-term erosion protection. LANDLOK TRM features X3® Fiber Technology which contains unique trilobal cross sections to capture water, soil and seed for enhanced vegetation.

LANDLOK 450 was installed and seeded along the slopes for erosion protection. Vegetation was established quickly and with the slopes being protected, the pier was no longer in danger.
