The Univar chemical facility is located on the bank of the Monongahela River. Increased river flow resulting from heavy rainfall was eroding away the riverbank along the facilities property. This threatened the river dock and piping infrastructure of the facility, and potential property loss was also a concern.

The consulting engineer selected ARMORMAX® Engineered Earth Armoring Solution™ as the method for bank stabilization. ARMORMAX was used to repair current damage as well as protect from further erosion

This system was chosen because it offered significantly lower cost and faster installation than traditional hard armoring solutions, such as rock and concrete. Additionally, the vegetated solution was more environmentally friendly, aesthetically pleasing and provides water quality benefits by filtering pollutants from storm water runoff.
